VOICE OVER IP (VoIP)





VoIP is a technology that allows telephone calls to be made over computer networks like internet. VoIP convert analog signal to digital data pakcets and support real time, two ways transmission of conversation using Internet Protocol (IP).
VoIP technology delivers voice information in digital form using packet switching, avoiding the tolls charged by local and long distance telephone networks. (Figure 1)

  • Voice calls can be made and receive with a desktop computer equipped with a microphone and speakers or with a VoIP-enable telephone.
  • Advantage of VoIP is its flexibility. Unlike the traditional telephone network, phones can be added or moved to different offices without rewiring or configuring the network.
  • With VoIP, a conference call is arranged by a simple click-and-drag operation on the computer screen to select the names of the conference.
